I offer two distinct certifying curricula depending on your professional goal: the Certified Positive Dog Trainer course for day-to-day training of puppies and adult dogs, and the Dog Behaviorist course for managing more complex behaviors. Both combine (accessible) scientific theory and hands-on practice, supervised over several weeks.
A dog trainer supports the learning of basic skills (recall, leash walking, sit, down, stay, among others) and socialization. A dog behaviorist works on established behavior problems such as anxiety, reactivity, aggression and the support of traumatized dogs (recognizing and helping them). My two courses cover these complementary professions of the dog world.
Yes, a remote option is available for the certifying courses if you cannot come to Waterloo. The courses will be recorded live though so you will have to be available during the sessions. My online conferences and courses also let you learn remotely on targeted topics, on your own time and at your own pace.
You will acquire what we call “the best practices” in the dog field. Those are the constantly updated must-know of canine training and behavior. The practices are defined by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior along with other professional associations, such as the PPG and the IAABC, which I am a member of. You will develop a fine understanding of canine communication, learning theory, behavior assessment and positive training methods. Each module combines theoretical content and practical exercises, with individualized support right up to the certification exam.
Yes. Whether you are a passionate beginner, an (aspiring) professional changing careers, or already working in the animal world (trainer, dog walker, boarding kennel, shelter), my courses adapt to different profiles and backgrounds to bring you to the required level of competence.
In order to follow the Certified Positive Dog Trainer Course, you will need to hold a high school diploma and have access to a dog to work with (not necessarily yours and not a perfectly trained one).
Each course has its own terms, detailed on its dedicated page. For current fees and upcoming sessions, please see the dog trainer and dog behaviorist course pages.
If you wish to enroll, a video call will take place to assess your motivation and your level of English.
To enroll in the Dog Behaviorist course, you must have completed my Certified Positive Dog Trainer course or hold a diploma from one of the positive training schools listed in the prerequisites on the Dog Behaviorist course page.
My dog training course is the first Belgian certifying course in evidence-based positive dog training. By earning it, you join the first Belgian network of certified positive dog trainers and behaviorists, a mark of quality for your future clients. You also enjoy many benefits. Find all the details in the course description.
