By completing a full certifying curriculum that combines scientific theory and supervised practice, through to a final exam. My Certified Positive Dog Trainer course gives you the knowledge of ethology, canine communication and positive training methods needed to practice this profession seriously and credibly. All practical information is sent to you upon enrollment.
The dog trainer course prepares you for day-to-day support: basic skills, socialization, leash walking, recall, sit, down, stay, among others. The dog behaviorist course goes further, into the management of established problems such as anxiety or aggression. My two courses are complementary and are aimed at future dog trainers who want to cover the full range of a dog's behavioral needs.
You need a secondary school diploma or equivalent, and access to a dog for the practical activities, puppy or adult, not necessarily your own. A good dose of motivation and curiosity about canine science does the rest.
The curriculum is available remotely, live, if you cannot travel to Waterloo. All practical exercises, quizzes and even the exam can be completed from home.
You can launch your own business as an independent dog trainer, join an existing organization, or add to your current practice in the dog world.
A fact sheet with the dates and fee of the next session is available higher up on this page. New sessions start several times a year, always in small groups of students. Contact me by email to enroll or to find out about upcoming availability.
Alongside the certifying curriculum, I offer theme walks and online conferences so you can keep practicing and deepening your knowledge after the course.
